Whisker Wednesday #3

Time for a toilet training update!! So I was able to get Bruce to stop peeing on his blanket and bed (mainly because I took them out). He is now fully peeing in the toilet thing. BUT now he has this fear of pooping in it. IDK what his deal is now.

We may have had a set back this last weekend as we took him to The Happy Cat Retreat boarding where there is no toilet so he was going in a regular litter box again. So because I knew this before hand, I didnt remove a ring like I was supposed to. Not only that but they say to only remove the ring after 1 week without accidents...and we haven't gotten there yet after removing the last ring. Only time will tell if he will get the hang of it. I can usually tell though when he has to go to the bathroom. He will go to the bathroom, sit and meow in there until we shut the door. Then he goes to the bathroom and meows when he wants to be let out. So that's good? I'm not quite sure yet how I feel about it anymore but I am determined to get him used to this!

I know you can do it little man!!

Tasty Tuesday

Sooo I may have been a little unmotivated yesterday (due to having guests in town and being completely exhausted this last weekend) which lead to no motivation to post something motivational. I hope you found something motivational even though I was a little lacking!

So I decided to do a post today and call it Tasty Tuesday. So last night as Bill (my boyfriend) and I were thinking about what to have for dinner we realized we had 5 lbs of chicken to use up. So we decided to grill some chicken. Instead of boring old chicken, I decided to add some spice and whip up a little bbq glaze to put on it. So if you are a fan of chicken and bbq sauce, you should try this out!

Grilled BBQ Chicken

Prep time: 10 minutes       Cook time: 20 minutes        Total time: 30 minutes

Serves: 2

  • 2 boneless and skinnless chicken breasts, fat trimmed and thinned to 1/4 in
  • 1 Tbsp of spices, I used an applewood rub
  • 2 Tbsp BBQ sauce, I used Sweet Baby Rays
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  1. Turn on grill and let it heat up to about 450 degrees
  2. Trim fat off of chicken and either split in half (this is what I did) or pound it until it is about 1/4 in. thick
  3. Season both sides of the chicken with spices of choice (the more bbqy or smokey, the better)
  4. Place chicken on grill
  5. Mix ingredients together in a small bowl to create the glaze
  6. Flip after 4-8 minutes--this all depends on the thickness of your chicken
  7. Once it has been flipped, brush with the glaze
  8. Flip after 4-8 minutes again
  9. Brush chicken with glaze again
  10. You can take off the grill at this point but I left it on for just a little bit and glazed the sides one more time to get the sides a little crispy
  11. ENJOY!

I found that cutting the chicken in half works a lot easier than pounding the heck out of it. I also only decided to do 2 chicken breasts because I didn't know how good it was really going to be, but I cant wait to make it again. It was so good Bill asked if I would make more for him to take to lunch!

Let me know how it turns out for you if you try it!

Quick and Healthy(ish) Breakfast Idea

I LOVE my sleep so when it comes to eating something in the morning, I want something quick and easy. So I recently came across this post from from a quick breakfast idea: Sausage Egg Cups. So after discovering some pretty delicious sausage from Johnsonville, I decided that I should try it out. And boy are they delicious! So instead of me sitting here and explaining them to you, let me just give you the recipe.

Chorizo Breakfast Muffin

Prep Time: 15 minutes            Cook Time: 35 minutes                 Total Time: 50 minutes

  • 2-3 sausage links, cooked and chopped up
  • 6 eggs, whisked
  • 2 egg whites, whisked
  • 8 grape tomatoes, chopped up
  • 1/4 cup of white onion, chopped up
  • 1/4 cup of cheese, shredded
  • 2 tsp of garlic, minced
  • dash of salt and pepper
  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  2. Cook sausage thoroughly to 165 degrees.
  3. In a large bowl, combine sausage, eggs, tomatoes, onion, garlic, salt and pepper. Whisk until well combined.
  4. Laddle mixture into 9-11 muffin tins. I used liners like you would for cupcakes or regular muffins but if you dont want to use those, the recipe says to grease REALLY WELL so that the muffins actually come out of the pan.

I usually just heat these up in the microwave for about 30 seconds and then devour them! Here is a snapshot of Myfitnesspal and the nutrition that came from the things that I used.

If you decide to try it, let me know how it goes and if you did anything different that made it even more delicious!

Whisker Wednesday #2

Wahoo, we've made it to another Whisker Wednesday. So a photo of the little guy to get started.

I may have caught him relaxing just a little bit too much :)
So if you read my last post, you know that I am trying to toilet train Bruce. And we, unfortunately, had a set back this last weekend. Bruce has a black blanket that he loves laying on and relaxing on. So we always keep this blanket in the bathroom for night time when he goes to bed as well keeping it with him when we board him at The Happy Cat Retreat. Last Saturday I decided it was time to give it a good old wash, Bruce was in there...PEEING ON IT! Gahhhhh all of my (his? ours?) hard work!

What I am thinking is that he was mad at me for removing another ring on the device on Friday that he decided that the blanket was the best place to do his business. So I washed it and kept it out of the bathroom and just put this dollar pet bed in there instead, thinking he wouldn't pee on it. Well I was wrong! I caught him, again! So all things somewhat soft have been removed from the bathroom. Now, I put him in the bathroom at least twice a day and he does his business. Then right after them I give him a lot of praise and some tuna treats. He LOVES those treats.

So I am hoping that this has fixed "his issue". I am thinking that instead of taking out another ring on Friday, I will just keep it the way it is. He is going to the Happy Cat Retreat again this weekend as Bill's parents are coming to town, but hopefully he doesn't forget his training...I'll let you know how it goes!

I cant lie though, he is such a cutie:

Have an amazing hump day!

Motivaltional Monday #2

Welcome back to Motivational Monday! A little late is better than never! Being in classes all day today (that turned out to be absolutely useless) made it hard for me to be motivational with anything. But I thought I would share with all of you one of my amazing finds that I believe is going to motivate me.

My amazing find: "Do One Thing Every Day That Scares You" by Dian G. Smith and Robie Rogge

I found mine as I was walking out of T.J. Maxx and I am glad that it caught my eye.

Here is what it looks like:

The pages throughout the book are exactly as the back of the book says. Quotes or mottoes of encouragement that push you to get out of your comfort zone and push forward. I know that I will have this book for quite awhile and I hope that it pushes me to excel in different ways and learn a little more about myself.

So are there any books/anything else that you have or have seen that pushes you to become a better person? If so, let me know!

Whisker Wednesday #1

Welcome to the first Whisker Wednesday.

So this post was inspired by the one and only, Bruce.

If you know me, you know that my boyfriend and I have a tuxedo cat named Bruce. We rescued him right before Thanksgiving in 2013 from a local rescue here in Colorado.  He was the only one left of his litter and looked very lonely. So before we go on, here is a couple of pictures of when we first got the little guy!

Bruce is no ordinary cat. He loves, and I mean loves, to play fetch. His favorite toys so far are hair ties, headbands, and twisty ties <--by far his favorite. Another thing that makes him extraordinary is if you cant find him anywhere, all you have to do is open the freezer. He LOVES waiting for an ice cube to accidentally drop so that he can either play with it or wait for it to melt so that he can lick it up. He also meows...A LOT. I think he gets really lonely when we are not around but as soon as we come home, the meowing flood gate opens. Even though hes a little more dog than cat, we still love the little guy.

Everyone knows that there is something that comes with every cat...and that is litter. Stinky litter. So after doing some research (and a little coercive talk from a former coworker) I decided to toilet train Bruce. I know what you're thinking, it's not going to work! BUT IT HAS BEEN! If you haven't heard about this I am using this product: CitiKitty. You can find some information and reviews here or here.

I started this about 3 weeks ago. I first changed the litter box to flush-able litter to get his used to the new stuff. Then a week after I did that, I took the littler box out of the bathroom and put the training tool on the toilet. Then a week after that, I cut the first hole out. So that's where we are at right now! Let me also say this, you NEED to have another bathroom to do this. Cats like to dig into little to clean up after themselves...and that doesn't stop once you start to do toilet train them! Here is a before (cleaned bathroom) picture and an after:

               Before (a clean bathroom)
After (a tornado aka Bruce)

So there you have it. The first Whisker Wednesday. I will update you on the progress on the next Whisker Wednesday.

Have a great day loves!

Motivational Monday #1

Hello all and welcome to Motivational Monday!

Am I the only one that thinks on Sunday, where the hell the weekend went? Yeah I didn't think so. Also have you seen any positive messages about Monday? No, probably not. So here is my solution.

Every Monday (hopefully) I plan to find something motivational to share with everyone. Motivation can be about anything. Fitness, health, food, life, really anything. So I plan to share something motivational and share why I think it is motivational as well as how I plan to use it in everyday life. I also will check in next Monday with how it went for me and check in with you too!

So...welcome to Motivational Monday!

My first motivational post is this:

You may be thinking...I know that I've heard of this. Well if you have seen the movie Bridesmaids...then you have heard it! It really sat with me that last time that I watched the movie. I don't know if it's because of my job (I work with homeless veterans) or what, but I couldn't believe how much I kept thinking about how true it was. I find things on a daily basis that I want to change or that I have an issue with, but then I think...its all me. The only reason I am having an issue with it is because of me or the way that I am thinking about it.

So this week I plan on thinking of this any time I complain about anything or have an issue with anything. I think this is a great way to start the week off because it holds me accountable for my actions, and that's what I really want this to be.

So now I challenge you to find something that will motivate you and stick to it for one week!

Thanks for reading and see you soon!
