Weekly Check In

Holy crap a blog post? Wow! I cant believe its been over a month since I updated everyone (or even posted at all!)

I am back and with some great updates!

Bruce Update:

He is doing pretty well! We are definitely still having some issues with him going pee outside of his litter box. We are not quite sure what is going on there...GRR. Other than that, we have actually been able to get him down about 2 pounds which should help with the disease he has. We have also switched to dry food from wet food to see if he can handle that. Time will only tell with that one!

We have also had our baby gate on our stairs for a couple of weeks now. And let me tell you, it works! He starts meowing in the morning when he hears us get up but other than that, we have been able to get quite a few solid nights of sleep!

Weight Loss Update:

I am still hovering at about 154 right now. Nutrition and working out...both have been a struggle to be honest. I hate only doing cardio but I know that is what I need to do to loose weight. But then I miss lifting weights but when I do that I gain weight. It is such a struggle! But with 6 weeks to go, I am going to make cardio my friend. It just needs to happen!

My first fitting was on August 18th...and it zipped all the way up! The hips definitely needed to be let out but that is all the seamstress wanted to do. Which makes me one happy person! My second fitting is one week from tomorrow and that is where we are going to be looking at the bottom of the dress to put in a bustle.

Wedding Update:

45 days....45 DAYS! The time is just coming up so fast and I have a feeling it is just going to go by faster! This weekend is my shower in Fargo that my mom is hosting, the next weekend is my shower in the Twin Cities hosted by my future sister-in-law/bridesmaid Ashley. The weekend after that is Bill's bachelor party. THEN ITS OCTOBER... That first weekend is my bachelorette party, then (tentative) College Game Day for NDSU in Fargo, then last weekend before the wedding...and then wedding weekend!!

We have been able to cross quite a few things off our list. Those being: engagement pictures are done (still waiting on getting them back but I have no worries!), we met with our venue and are looking over food options, we met with our officiant and are working on our ceremony, I met up with a friend and we tackled some of the centerpieces, my mom and brother's girlfriend punched out some more hearts for me (my hand thanks you!) and we have father's tuxes figured out.

Although we have been able to get those things done there are still decisions that need to be made: figuring out the cake, wedding guest book, other decorations that I am on the fence about, figuring out the big 4 (something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue), table numbers (who knew figuring out how to display table numbers would be so hard?!), deciding on final details of programs and I Spy game, MY shoes, some of the gifts, timelines for both Friday and Saturday, and meeting with/talking with DJ for music.

The days are dwindling but I have no doubt that these things will fall into place!

I placed an order off of Blue Apron and got this meal out of it. Blue Apron is a service that delivers 3 meals per week right to your front door step. They provide pretty much everything except for things like salt and pepper. So instead of me telling you how I made it I have added a screen clipping of the description off of Blue Apron (ps, if you click the title--it will take you to the recipe). I think this is one of the best home made meals I have made in quite some time. If you try it, you'll definitely have to let me know how they turned out for you!

Weekly Check-In

Welcome back to weekly update y'all!

Bruce Update:

Bruce has seemed to go back to his old self. I can tell that he is losing weight by his little pouch. And I can tell that he is starving because all he does is meow and race to the cabinet where his old food was stored. I think hes expecting food when we go over there :( Poor guy. It has almost been a month, so we will be taking him back in soon enough to see how his bladder is doing and see how his weight is. If he has lost weight we might be able to slowly add a little bit more food and possibly switch from wet to dry food.

Another thing that he is still doing is at exactly 4:45am gracing our presence with his meowing. We even got an automatic feeder thinking that he would go to that instead of coming to us. NOPE. Now we have started to lock him in the downstairs bathroom with some toys (throwback if you've been around for awhile) for about an hour. Girl needs her beauty sleep ya know?!

Weight loss update:

I have lost almost 2 lbs since last week...YAY! Now I am down to 155.2! I have not been 100% on my diet but I have been trying to make healthier choices! I have also found that when I make a sound breakfast choice, it helps me make healthier decisions later in the day. I usually eat either egg and bacon whole wheat english muffin or over easy egg (shout-out to Amy for informing me of the delicious way to cook eggs!) with bacon.

I have also upped my cardio game. Sprints or the stair stepper with some light weight/high rep weight lifting. My goal right now is to lose 5 lbs by my birthday (Aug. 1) which is totally possible. I just have to commit to eating right and consistently working out. I also think that once I actually put 100% into meal prep, that would help tons. It also helps that every morning my motivation (my dress) stares me in the face. I WILL FIT INTO YOU!

Wedding Update:

This last weekend was actually a productive one for the wedding front. Both Bill and I went up to Brainerd to hang out with my bestie, Amy. We had planned this weekend quite a long time ago to go over some wedding things.

So what made it productive?
Well we were able to decide that instead of painting some frames that I got from a friend grey, they are staying black. We also decided on some centerpieces. With a little inspiration from a post I found on Pinterest, Amy and I got busy with creating some masterpieces. I posted a picture on Instagram but I will post it a sneak peak on here as well.




On the left side are the centerpieces. I was able to find the tall candles at Dollar Tree and we went to JoAnn fabrics for the glitter tape. Such an easier task than dipping the candles in glitter. Also each one of them will be a little bit differently which I love! They will also be dark grey, light grey and sparkle. Then the color page book that is on the right will also be part of the centerpieces. We will be cutting hearts out of the paper to put on the tables for that "pop of color". Its going to be awesome. Can't wait for all of the pictures after the wedding! So much color!

Motivational Monday #33

Welcome back to Motivational Monday!


Today's post is going to be all about perspective.

When thinking about this post yesterday, I saw this picture. I really clicked with me. I try to be an optimistic person. I even saw a research saying that optimistic people are usually late (and if you know me, it true). But anyway!

When coming across different obstacles and situations in life, it is all about perspective. We may find ourselves in places that we don't want to be or realize that we are simply wishing for different things in life than we have. But if we think about the perspective we have and why we have it, there might actually be a chance to change it. Like Abraham Lincoln says, why complain about something bad when it actually gives that one certain thing it's beauty. It is what it is. Plain and simple. Having a different perspective might actually give something some rejoice instead of complaints.

Weekly Check-In

Welcome back! Told you I would post today :)

Here's the deal. As a way to keep myself checking in and upfront, I am going to be checking in on Wednesdays about different things. Eating health, wedding things, Bruce. Things that may go by the way side when we get busy. I also think that this will help me get back into my wedding dress (*fingers crossed*)!

Bruce Update:
About a month ago, Bill and I awoke so some weird howls and some strange squatting behavior outside of the litter box. He looked as though he was straining to go to the bathroom. It first caught me off guard since he hasn't gone outside of his litter box since potty training (and we all know how that went...). I had to rush to work but once I got there, I called a vet. She stated that his life could be in danger and that he had to be brought in right away. So I rushed back home and took him to the vet. She stated that he was NOT in danger but that she wanted to keep him and give him IV fluids to help flush whatever was going on out. We took him home and ended up following him around the house with some carpet cleaner to get the stains out. He was just not back 100%.Then we took him back the next morning and the vet said that shed like to keep him another day. 1. thing wrong with this vet, overpriced. And she charged us more than we should have been. But what can you say, I'm not a vet.

Fast forward 2 weeks. Bill calls me saying that Bruce is peeing orange. ORANGE people. I immediately start looking at other vets as I didn't have a good feeling about the first one (and boy was I right). I found one for him and Bill was able to get him in that same day. After some tests and reviewing his symptoms, it turns out that Bruce has Feline Idiopathic Cystitis. Long story short, he has a disease with his bladder and will have it the rest of his life. He also is a little overweight and that excels the disease by 100%. After the appointment, they gave us some medicine to give Bruce to help with his bladder and he is now on prescription food for the rest of his life.

For the last couple of months, Bruce wakes us up between 4-6 am by scratching the bed, the blinds and/or meowing - usually a combo of all 3 (he knows what gets on our nerves). Poor guy was probably telling us something was wrong and we didn't know it. He is still doing it to this day but maybe (hopefully) he will stop soon. Hear that Bruce, mom says PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP. He is more of himself lately and I make sure to pay more attention to him and make sure that his litter box is clean.


Weight Loss Update:
When I weighed myself on Monday it said 157 (holy shi* i know). When I tried my wedding dress on for the first time in February it fit to a T. I needed almost no alterations. I was also 147 lbs. That was because I was totally depleted of food and water for 2 days <--not a great/fun way to lose weight btw. Between the dress and that number, I am on a mission. My first dress fitting is in a little over a month away. I am determined to fit in that damn dress. My first fitting is over 2 months out from my wedding, so I have to keep that in mind. I may end up pushing it back a week if I find that in 2 weeks I am no where closer to getting into the dress.

What have I been eating? I am so glad you asked!
In the mornings, I have been making an egg and bacon english muffin sandwich. Making bacon ahead of time in the oven makes this seriously very easy. On Sunday I made a big batch of healthier chili (with black beans, kidney beans, lean ground beef, corn and tomato sauce). It was actually delicious. I have been eating that at lunch the last couple of days. Last night I prepped some chicken and ate that last night for dinner and again for lunch today with some rice, sugar snap peas, ranch and water.

Yes, I used to hate that hashtag. But now I dont because it is exactly what I need to do. I needed to lose some weight anyway, so this is just a good launch forward!

Wedding Update:
Holy man have things been just a rolling. We have 100 days left until our wedding. I seriously can not believe it has gone this fast. Here are the things that we have done so far (besides some of the obvious things):

  • DJ booked
  • Photographer booked and engagement pictures scheduled
  • Makeup and hair person picked
  • Meeting with venue scheduled for day of things and food
  • Groomsmen tuxes picked out
  • Invites and RSVP's ordered/envelopes labeled (will be going out this week-eeeeeek!)
Here are some things that are at the forefront of our minds right now
  • Bride and Groom wedding bands
  • Centerpieces
  • Decorations
  • Flowers
  • WEDDING DRESS
  • Starting day of schedule
  • Getting coordinated with Day-Of Coordinator
  • Figuring out rehearsal dinner and Sunday brunch thing

  • Program and I Spy (cameras)

Motivational Monday #32

Hello everyone! Man it has been a LONG time since I have blogged. Sorry about that! If you are missing my posts, well join the train and lets get going!

If you are wondering what the heck has been going on in our lives, I will be doing a post on Wednesday explaining what has been going on and why I am posting on a Wednesday!

So today's Motivational Monday comes from trying on my wedding dress for the first time since buying it in February....and IT NOT FITTING. Like at all. I knew that it wouldn't fit as when I tried it on I was majorly sick and going through some nasty things with my health. BUT I didn't think it would be THAT bad. Turns out, that situation is just what I needed to make myself realize and acknowledge the weight gain.


When I saw this picture it really made me stop and say: Yes it fit in February, No it didnt fit on Sunday but what that means now is to keep walking forward. To meet the obstacles of life head on and accomplish my goal: fitting into my wedding dress and letting it out the least possible. It is up to me to keep walking and not let this realization depress me. It WILL motivate me!

Motivational Monday #31

Helllooooo!

Welcome back to another Motivational Monday! I hope that everyone's weekend was swell! We hung out with some friends and got some wedding things accomplished (its coming up so fast!).

Today's Motivational Monday about what you can do for others.


I remember going to Starbucks once and as I got to the window to pay, the lady said "Oh the person in front of you actually payed for your drink". Like WHAT?! I got a huge smile on my face and wanted to thank them but alas they were gone. I was in a great mood for the rest of the day. Turns out, quite a few people have done this for others in the past. And many people I know have been recipient of what is called Paying it Forward. With that being said, I have never done it for anyone else. So many times I find myself getting caught up in my own little world that I forget that everyone has their own stories and struggles. When I am going through a tough time or am in a bad mood, its incredible what a passing by smile (or even a Starbucks drink can do.

There is no real effort in just smiling at someone or providing a listening ear to someone.The next time you find yourself down or wanting to put a smile on someone's face, look around. Notice the nature. Listen to the birds as they sing their songs. Get off your phone and just be. Pay for someone's drink or food at the next place that you go. It may not seem like a huge thing to you, but you never know how its going to affect the next person.

You never know who around could use a smile or a kind word!

Motivational Monday #30

Welcome back Motivational Monday!

How was your weekend? Ours was great. We spent some time on Saturday with some friends and then heading to the Twins game yesterday (where they beat the Brewers). I may have gotten a little bit of color from the perfect weather :)

Today I started a new job (if you didnt know!). I am now working in Downtown St. Paul at the Public Housing Authority as a Rental Technician. All that means is that I am working with one other person to determine a persons/families eligibility for Section 8 housing. Trying to decide if I wanted to take this job or not was actually quite hard for me. I would be giving up a lot of flexibility and closeness that I had at my current job but I would be gaining more money and a chance to move up and grow. What it all boiled down to was the drive. Yeah yeah I know a lot of people commute but ever since I've had a job, they have been no more than 15 minutes from me. Which is super close! Now my drive is 30 miles exactly. This morning it took me about 45 minutes and then I had to drive around to figure out where to park. Not knowing the area very well, it took me a little time to get it all figured out!

Sooo with all of that being said, I came across this quote recently that really resignated with me. Especially with deciding to go outside of my box a little bit and accept this job.


I decided to take the job based on the fact that I was stuck in my job. There was no room for growth and there was no way I was ever going to make the money that I was offered there. Even as we went to bed last night, I was still second guessing my decision. Bill said something that also made me feel better. Now I have the opportunity to grow and if I dont like it, I can move on (I knew there was a reason I was marrying him ;))

I made a choice that reflect my hopes. My hope to move up in a company. My hope to grow as an individual as well as a professional. No matter how much I fear about not being good at the new job, or fearing a whole new environment. or having a long drive to and from work. I chose hope instead of fear.

Motivational Monday #29

Welcome back from my week long break from blogging. After the holiday and busy weekend, I just needed to take a little bit of rest!

This last weekend was just beautiful. It was great weather and we got to watch Bill's sister marry her true love. The venue was perfect, the dancing was plenty and at the end of the night you could see the love these two have for each other. After celebrating all weekend, it was very hard to get motivated to accomplish things yesterday. We did, however, stop by a jewelry store to check out some wedding bands. I seriously cant believe that we will be getting married in a little over 4.5 months...AHHHH! Its coming up so fast!

So with that being said, here is today's Motivational Monday. Hopefully it gives you some motivation like it did with me!

Days seem to fly by and each day we make decisions. These decisions, whether good or bad, shape us. They mold us to who we are every day and over time they change us. With today's culture, women tend to second guess themselves on whether or not they made the right decision or if what they are doing something wrong when their priorities don't align with others. We are who we are and we should accept that! Own yourself!

Friday Favorites

Welcome back Friday! So glad you could make an appearance!

Today's favorite is going to be a movie. Weird right?! But Bill and I watched this movie this week and I work up the next morning with such motivation to make better choices. So I figured that I better share it with all of you!

The movie is: Fed Up
It recently came out on Netflix and I knew that I wanted to check it out. This movie is different than other documentaries (in my opinion) that have come out in the last couple of years. The other ones that I have watched talk about the horrors of animal welfare, the fast food industry and things like that. This one talks about changes that the food industry went through in 1977. It talks about sugar and the effects of it and it's similarities to cocaine. Scary, I know! They also talk about food addiction. 

Many people (including people in my own close circle) don't believe in it, but I whole heartily do. I have gone through times where all I crave is bad food and then I reward myself. I feel like sh*t afterwards but that doesn't matter. What does matter is that I got the food into my body.  That I get that little bit of release of eating that food. Once I start making better choices the urges quiet down and I don't crave that food as much or when I do eat it, I feel sick. It is a cycle of a battle but this documentary really opened up my mind.

Another favorite that I want to talk about today is my #khspringchallenge girls and trainer, Katy Hearn herself. I have lost motivation so many times and even though my nutrition hasn't been great, I have been killing it in the gym. These ladies give the energy I need to push through exercises that I have never heard of and become ungodly sore. So thank you ladies for posting your sweaty pictures, your motivation as well as your food. You motivate me more than you know!

Motivational Monday #28

Welcome back! Hope your weekend was great! We were up in Fargo celebrating a friend's graduation and getting some quality friend time in!

So here we go to Motivational Monday!!

Right off the bat, sorry about the language on this post but it is entirely necessary.

In my daily life, I work with domestic and sexual violence victims and survivors. That being said, I hear a lot from the women that they are told how they should look and how they should dress. Or that there is something wrong with them. Now in my line of work, we really try to help them get out of that mindset and empower them to realize that they deserve respect and they have the right to make their own decision.

Before working in this area, I never thought about certain things the way I do now. How media and our society pushes an unrealistic image onto us, makes us feel like crap for not eating the way we should or looking a way that we don't. I also never realized how much the media and our society has an influence on how we base ourselves. We feel bad if we choose something that benefits someone else but are expected to remain composed 100% of the time. How we may feel like we are on top of the world but then we see something, or try on something or hear something and it all changes.

Today's post is kind of a big F you to society and to others who maybe don't agree with what you decide to do with you life and your body.


Like I said, sorry for the language but it is entirely necessary. As you go about this week, do things for yourself without feeling bad. If you are okay with what you are doing, then who the hell cares. Your happiness is what is important, dont let society dictate that as well.

Friday Favorites

Holy crap. Does anyone else feel like this week just shot by?? Because I certainly do!

I felt this way last week as well! The time just keeps flying by!

So for this Friday Favorite I want to talk about something that I dont really talk about..And that would be my hair. Today I am going to talk to you about these curls...


Now since I have very fine hair (but a lot of it as the hair stylists say), my hair hates to do anything but be flat. Usually curling my hair and/or "poofing" it, it falls within 20 minutes. BUT I have found something that actually has allowed the curls to stay in and my hair to have a little bit of volume. What are they you ask? Well just keep scrolling!



The first item on the left is what makes the difference, seriously! It is called Paul Mitchell Hot off the Press. I found it at Ulta (after looking around for 20 minutes) and decided I should give it a try. Holy crap peeps. It keeps the curl in my hair for more than 20 minutes. And even that is a win in my book! I will curl my hair in the morning using either a curling iron or my NuMe curling wands and the curls are still there by the time that I get home 9 hours later! After curling my hair, I let the curls cool all the way and then I run my fingers through them. This really allows the curls to fall like the picture shows above. Then I use this hair spray to help the curls keep their shape. WARNING: this hair spray is sticky and will get all over the counters. So beware as you'll prolly have to wipe up after it. The last product that I use is the Bb Pret-a-Powder. This is a 3-in-1 product that really helps with oil as well as giving some volume to the hair. 

So there you go, you have a new hair style for this weekend! Have a great one!

Motivational Monday #27

Welcome back from the weekend everyone! 


As the new week has started, there are times when we may find ourselves looking at social media posts thinking I wish I could live like that or I wish I could be that happy.

The truth is....you CAN BE! You create your own happiness. And while things may be rough right now or you may feel just bogged down, the happiness is there. It may take a little time to figure out what that is but I promise, its there! Happiness comes in all shapes and sizes. It's kind of why I started this blog. I wanted to start the weeks off by finding my own motivation and writing about it. I promise there are many times that keeping up with writing each week gets repetitive, but it really allows me to think and view each Monday a different way. For me right now, it is looking at this fitness challenge with motivation and excitement instead of dread. Allowing myself to enjoy the process!

So go out this week and find your happiness!

Motivational Monday #26

Helllooo again! So how was your weekend? Mine was great! Busy, but great! I got to celebrate with my future sister-in-law at her bachelorette party on Saturday night and then got to enjoy the Twins game on Sunday. Go Twins!

As a way to loose some weight, I have signed up for a Spring Challenge offered by KatyHearnFit. I follow her on Instagram and decided that it was finally time to get off my a** and get to it! This was a great way to get at it. She has sent me a workout plan as well as some suggested things to eat. I will be following a way of eating called If It Fits Your Macros also known as IIFYM. If you are unfamiliar about it, check it out here! I will be doing this challenge for 8 weeks.

Since I am starting that challenge today, here is my motivation:


The thing holding me back is me. Nothing else. It is up to me to do this, not anyone else. Yes, it may be hard and difficult at times but I will do it.

Motivational Monday #25

Hello hello! Welcome back from the weekend! How was yours? Ours was great. We got to celebrate with one of Bill's good friend as he married the girl of his dreams. The wedding was elegant and the memories will last for a lifetime.

As we get closer to our wedding, Bill and I reminisce about the beginning of our journey together. While we have been together for over 5 and a half years (holy crap!), the road was definitely not easy.


There were bumps here and there but the most important thing to take away from all of it is that it made us stronger. We learned from each other and feel like we could take on the world now. While some decisions in the past may have not been the best, we made them and that's that. We will learn from them but not look back on them with bitterness. Even though we may not have liked what was going on at the time, the paths that we have taken and the choices that we have made make us the couple we are today.

After celebrating an awesome couple and experiencing their love for one another, I cant wait for us to let everyone experience that with us. Our day is slowly creeping up (STRESS!) but once it's here, we'll be ready.

Friday Favorites


As I thought of what to post today, I thought of a great idea. While I have shared quite a few make up items, I thought it might be interesting to show what I have been loving for a full face of make up!

You may have seen some items before but I will link them anyway! :)

Here is the whole shebang!
Below is the picture broken up and things explained a little more in detail!


1. Maybelline Fit Me: Matte and Poreless Foundation -- I am still in love with this foundation and I even went back and got another shade since I am so pale right now! (you can 
see my review for this foundation here)
2. NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk -- I love to use this pencil as a primer for my eyeshadow. It really allows colors to pop and keeps other colors in place. And for $4 who could go wrong! I think I've had this for about 2 years now.
3. Two Faced-Better than Sex mascara -- Weird name right?! This is a sample size that I got a while back. I didn't actually think I would like this as I tend to not like high end mascara as much as drugstore, but I do like it! It doesn't make my lashes hard (HATE that) and it also doesn't flake or run. 
4. Covergirl Clump Crusher Mascara -- You may be thinking, why is there two mascaras on here? You use two?! BUT this mascara I use on my bottom lashes. The brush makes it very easy to get those little guys!
5. Benefit Gimme Brow -- Since my hair is naturally blonde, so is my eyebrow hair tails. It is definitely frustrating to go around with only half of an eyebrow...but this product helps when I'm in a time crunch!
6. L'Oreal Paris 24HR Infallible Eyeshadow in Amber Rush -- This pressed eyeshadow is really easy to use. I usually just apply it with my finger due to how delicate the powder its. The color is even nice enough that I dont have to wear anything else with it.
7. Lorac PRO Palette -- Please excuse the messiness with this packaging! The softness of it makes it hold onto anything! I love the array and the creaminess of these shadows. When we travel, this is often the only thing I bring for my eyes.



1. Anastasia Brow Wiz in Ash Blonde -- When time allows, this thing is a life saver! It fits my eyebrow hair color to a tea and allows me to have my tails!
2. Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Black -- I have reviewed this before here and I absolutely love it! 
3. Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer in Brightening -- I dont usually have dark circles so when I use this it is more for a brightening effect. It has a great consistency and rarely ever looks cakey!
4. Benefit Blush in Dallas -- This blush is quite warm so I like to wear it when a foundation may be too light or I am just looking for a warming effect. One thing to remember from this blush is that a little goes a long way!

 Finally...Brushes! (yes, I know they need to be cleaned)

 1. Coastal Scents Bionic Flat Top Buffer Brush (furthest to the right) -- This brush is by far my favorite way of applying my Maybelline foundation. It is soft and barely sheds which is great!
2. IT Cosmetics Airbrush Blending Crease Brush -- This brush is a little more expensive than the other ones on here but I will say it, it is worth it! It blends everything out like a dream! It was totally worth the $14.
3. Coastal Scents Pro Blending Fluff Brush -- Many say that this brush is a dupe for the MAC 217 but as someone who has never had one of those, I cant say that. It does a great job though at adding color to the crease to deepen any look. It is a great brush is great when used for precise color precision.

Motivational Monday #24

Gooooood morning everyone! Hope everyone's weekend was great! I worked on Saturday and then spent the rest of the day catching up on Once Upon a Time...all I gotta say is the Queen of Darkness! :)

Today's Motivational Monday comes from my Caribou tea this morning (I had the tropical green tea with a shot of raspberry). I am not usually a fan of tea but I am trying to get out of my little box and try new things!


Each morning, regardless of how bad the day before was, is a blank canvas. A blank canvas for eating better, for working out, for taking action, for whatever you need it for! Each Monday we awake, the daunting task of the week is upon us, but if we look at each day as its own maybe the week will go by just a little bit faster. And just maybe, Mondays wont be so daunting anymore.

Motivational Monday #23

Heeelllooo! So you're prolly thinking holy crap its different again. And by golly it is! There are some things that I am still tweaking but I really like this layout. What do you think of this one??

As I drove to work this morning (and then turned around to go back to the house and get my computer...ugh Mondays!), I thought of how good of a weekend we had. Then I stated to think about all of the things that we have coming up in the next couple of months. It made me think, when will we ever have time to just chill? With my work, weddings, graduations and our wedding planning, our time is pretty booked on the weekends. I couldn't help but wondering, how in the heck did all of our weekends end up booked? How have our lives gotten quietly filled...

Once I saw this quote, it made me realize that we must take time for ourselves. No matter how full our lives get. Without us, our lives just pass by and we don't get a chance to really experience things. Although knowing when to tip ourselves over is the hardest part, starting little by little is step. Once we start to tip just a little bit, we can judge from there on how full is just to full.

Whisker Wednesday

I haven't done a Whisker Wednesday post in quite a while so I thought I would do one this week!

As the weather has gotten nicer, Bruce's meows have grown more frequent. He loves just sitting in front of the open door listening to the birds and smelling the fresh air. If that door isn't open, he loves to let you know that he'd like it to be.

Example:


 Any time you are by the door or I go outside to check on my Sugar Snap Peas, hes right there. I actually got him a leash that we can attach somewhere and he can roam for 25 ft. Fingers crossed that he gets used to that for summer!

Other than that, Bruce is doing great. He has lost a little bit of weight (his vet would like to hear that!) and its probably from running up and down the stairs. Any time Bill or I go upstairs, he is usually following right along with us (by following I mean turning it into a chase).

This toy is just a ball going around in a circle, but when he hears that ball rolling around, he immediately comes over to see what you are doing. Even when he's completely zonked out. Such a weirdo ;) <-- but he's my weirdo :)

Motivational Monday #22

Welcome back Monday, we all missed you (and by missed I mean not missed--ha!).

I hope that all of your Easter celebrations went off without a hitch (if you celebrate). On Saturday, I did my first Wine and Canvas and it wasn't too bad. I would have to say though, that it was just a little too stressful for me (even though they aren't supposed to be stressful at all!). I do like the picture that we created but unless there was a great deal through Groupon or something, I don't think that I would do it again. After that we hung out with two of our good friends for the 2nd annual Brandon's Birthday bash (they were with us in Colorado last year so we figured we might as well make it a yearly thing ;)) On Sunday, we spent the afternoon at my future in-law's house. It was a good time filled with delicious food! :)

Now onto Motivational Monday :)

At times in life, we wonder why things happen the way that they do. Or why we have to go through what we do.


Now I am not saying with this post that every experience is going to be pleasant, because it is not. But that doesn't mean that we cant look at experiences as a chance to grow and explore a different realm. At times it can be very difficult to see the purpose of things (and sometimes we never really find out what that purpose is) or why we must go through them at the times they are presented to us. 

While you go through this week, think of your surroundings and the experiences that life is giving you.

Motivational Monday #21

This past weekend, I was able to have a girl's night with one of my favorites Amy. After working all day, it was just what I needed! The FH was out of town at a Bachelor party, so we decided to take full advantage. :)

While we made drinks, listened to music and talked I couldn't help but feel happy. Happy that I had a great friend that we could talk about everything and not afraid of judgement. Happy that the FH and I can both be out without each other and enjoy ourselves. Happy that while distance is a factor, relationships can work out and grow, if you tend to them.

Why does this matter? While I was on theBERRY yesterday, I found this quote and felt like I had actually taken the time to stop and enjoy the happiness. Don't get me wrong, I am usually happy. But actually taking some time to enjoy the little things that actually make us happy, I am guilty of not doing.


Plenty of times you hear the phrase, stop and smell the roses. But whats the point right? Why do we need to smell the roses? Because at some point there may be not more roses, or there are fewer roses, or your sense of smell may no longer be working. That is why we stop and smell the roses. To experience them and feel them while we can. 

The big picture? Experience life and the little joys.

Friday Favorites - Energy Breakfast Smoothie

Welcome to Friday Favorites! Usually on these days I talk about the things that I have been loving this week. Today is going to be just a little different as I am going to be sharing with you all my go-to Energy Breakfast smoothie that I have been loving.



Ingredients:

  • 1 full scoop of Cellucor Cor-Fetti Protein Powder
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp of peanut butter
  • 1/4-1/2 cup of frozen fruit
  • 1 cup of Almond Milk
  • 1/2 of frozen banana
  • 1 tbsp Chia seeds (not pictured)
  • 1-2 Ice cubes
Instructions
  1. Combine ingredients into blender ( we use the magic bullet in our household)
  2. Pulsate 2-3 times to ensure all chucks are broken up. It may help to take the container and shake it and then pulsating it a couple more times. 
  3. Take off blender, pour in convenient cup and enjoy!
  • As a side note, this shake usually keeps me full for about 3 hours!

    • Since my immune system was having such a hard time repairing after getting sick for so long and I had no energy, I decided to do something about it. I can definitely tell a different when I take this and when I dont. I am more alert during the day and can concentrate on tasks longer. I also havent gotten sick again...so thats a bonus!   3. Up & Up- Women's Daily Multivitamin
    • I picked this up around Christmas at our work's United Way fundraiser and have just started including them into my daily routine. Although I am very forgetful about taking pills, having these on the kitchen counter in view really helps me remember. Also, since most of them have to be taken with food, I just take them with my breakfast.

Motivational Monday #20

I have been in a funk (and not an up-town funk either). Not going to lie. I don't know if it's because this year started off with Mexico and ended badly, the snow/cold weather, or that I haven't been to the gym very regularly since the middle of January. In all honesty, its probably all of the above. Excuses seem to find their way into my mind during certain times. Not just one excuse, but so many. And about the silliest things. While working on a Shutterfly book for Mexico yesterday, I found this quote.

So true! Don't be lazy, make things happen for yourself! You have NO excuse not to!

This really spoke to me.

It really made me think about the passions I have in life. And when I thought about it, I couldn't really find any. Yes, I love penguins and I love being around my family and friends but when it comes to something that I am very passionate about or a hobby that I love, I came up with nothing. I have said multiple times that I want to start calligraphy, but haven't yet. I keep talking about being fit and wanting to become a leaner, stronger person and yet here I sit making excuses for why I didn't go to the gym this morning.

So this Monday, I am working to finding my passion in my every day life. To find one thing that I can look forward to and that I actually enjoy doing.

Friday Favorites

Welcome to Friday! Anyone have any exciting weekend plans? I think we are going to get some cleaning done and maybe a little wedding planning :)

Today I am going to share with you the things I have been loving this week!


1. Tangle Teezer. This brush has seriously made brushing my hair so much easier. Since I have been little, I have had Barbie doll hair (just by looking at it, it tangles) so having this brush helps with the breakage and the time consumption with regular brushes!

2. Bumble and Bumble- Pret-a-Powder. Although this product is a little spendier than the rest, it has lasted me for about a year (and there is still half a bottle left). This powder is equal parts dry shampoo, style equalizer and volumizer. It is a powder that you shake onto your roots and go from there! When I wake up in the morning after showering at night, my hair loves sticking to my head. This product helps bring it back to life and add a little texture.

3. Maybelline Fit ME! Matte & Poreless Foundation. As I have gotten older my "T-zone" has gotten much oiler. Especially my forehead and nose. This foundation really stays on all day and helps with the oiliness. It is a medium coverage foundation but it definitely very buildable. I am wearing the shade 120 (although this shade may be a little dark for me at the moment-shhh!) and it blends flawlessly!

4. Coastal Scents: Bionic Flat Top Buffer. This brush actually goes along with the foundation next to it! I have used my Beauty Blender as well to apply this but I find that during the day (even with a primer) the foundation just slips off my face. The bristles on the brush are also super soft and its only $6.95. Its almost a steal!

5. True Religion 'True Religion' Perfume. I found this perfume at Gordmans (surprise, surprise!) and wasn't quite sure about it at first. Then I decided to spray it on me and continue shopping. If I still liked it at the end of the trip then I would reconsider. Turns out, I really liked it and now I wear it every day! Perfumes are really hard to explain but Overstock states this about the perfume: features notes of sparkling fruits, floral heart, pear blossom, wood notes, and musks

The last thing that I have been loving is this book: Crazy Love by Leslie Morgan Steiner. It is a book based on her own accounts in an abusive relationship and how she finally left for good. She also has a  great TED talk here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1yW5IsnSjo

I highly suggest everyone go and watch this. It is a very eye opening and educational video.

Friday Favorites

Welcome back Friday! We have all missed you very much!

Here is what I have been loving this week:

Beauty 
Lorac Unzipped Palette
This makeup palette has been my jam for the past week. I think I have worn it every day this last week. The shadows are very pigmented and they blend really easily. The one thing I really like about this palette is how there are both matte and shimmer shades. It allows for a lot of versatility!

Hair Care
Clairol Hair Food: Kiwi
Even though I only wash my hair a couple times a week, this shampoo leaves it smelling great for days! It gives me shine and also makes my hair feel very soft. There is virtually no buildup on my hair (yours could be different!) and you don't need very much for the shampoo to lather right up (my favorite part).

I was recently turned to this show by a well known Youtuber: Ingrid Nilson. She is a beauty/fashion youtube sensation, I suggest you check her out! 
Anyway, she was talking last week about this show and I thought I would give it a try. Its a show set 97 years after a nuclear war has destroyed civilization on Earth. Before the war, there were a select group of people spent to space to escape. Now a group of 100 will re-enter Earth's atmosphere to see if they can return. It has a pretty good story line and I love how they have a couple of strong lead characters that are women!

Drink 
Almond Milk
After a couple of trials and errors, I have come to the realization that my body just hates milk. Not quite sure why since I'm ok with cottage cheese (yummy!) but the stomach cramps are just not worth it! So I have been venturing out and trying other things that I can drink with dinner/put on my cereal when I'm craving it. I actually really like the flavoring of this almond milk. It's not too sweet and it makes Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds taste amazing! I am not set on anything yet though, and cant wait to try other types.

Food
                      
I know this isn't technically food but when I pair it with a good salad, it is and I absolutely love it. I think I may even like it more than ranch. Almost every night for the past week, I have had this along our dinners. And I'm not going to lie, once I finish it I want another salad!

This weekend's plans: getting all dressed up on Saturday and going to a work fundraiser to raise money on Saturday!

Motivational Monday #17

Welcome back to Motivational Monday and welcome to March!

After being sick for a month and a half and not going to the gym, I have been feeling tired and sluggish.So what do I do to get motivated again??? Do a blog post (duh)!

I always feel that when you do so little for so long, its so easy to fall into the "do nothing routine". This routine is seriously one of the hardest ones to break. I find it easy to also find negativity in this routine. Whether that be a bad mood, negative body image, or bad eating.



This weekend I was able to do some organization of unpacked boxes (yes we moved in October...dont judge me!) and found it very enjoyable. On Saturday morning, I set out to find some pull out drawers for our bathroom. Since the cupboards are pretty narrow I wanted to find something that could hold a good amount of things, allowed things to be on top and also pulled out. I found just what I was looking for at Wal-Mart. Once I got home, I decided it was time to try and tackle some of those pesky boxes. Once those things started flying out of the box, I was on a roll! To actually be doing something with my hands and enjoying it, was amazing. And not only that, I get to see my actual work every time I open the bathroom closet. When starting a new or simple task that you may have been putting off for some time and then actually finishing it makes you feel...accomplished.

So this week (and this month) I am looking forward to trying new tasks and cant wait to see what I accomplish :)

Where The Heck Have I Been?

As a person that keeps promising to be better at blogging, I can officially say that I have not lived up to my promises (making indents on my couch while getting better just took priority :)). Since I have been saying that you may be wondering what the heck has been going on in my life. Well let.me.tell.you!

You may recall seeing this picture from my Instagram a couple of weeks ago:





I was sick and finally decided it was time to go to the doctor. Little did I know, that doctor was about to screw me over. After taking the penicillin for about a week, I was starting to feel like myself again. My energy levels were coming back, my nose/head was no longer stuffy and I was almost back at it in the gym. Then BAM. Out of nowhere my body decided to say--"ya know what, screw food and anything of the sort. I'm done breaking you down and you are no longer wanted in this body". So on Friday last week I started another round of not being able to process any food or liquids. After going through this in Mexico, I already had a feeling that I was going to get to a point where I wouldn't be hungry at all. Which is EXACTLY what happened.

This was super crappy timing as I was to go wedding dress shopping with my mom and some of my bridesmaids in Fargo. I went and it was a really great time and I'm so glad they were there, but I just wish I could have felt a lot better to really soak in the moments. So I got home on Saturday and was finally able to eat a little something. Then on Sunday, I just decided--to hell with it, I'm going to the doctor again. So I went to an actual hospital urgent care this time. Come to find out, after having food poisoning and being on 1500 mg of Penicillin/day, all the bacteria in my gastrointestinal tract had been killed off. Now I am still waiting on the test results of a strep culture, C-diff, and a parasite--Just to make sure I don't have any of those.

So back to how the first doctor (actually a PA) screwed me over. I told her about the food poisoning and she didn't say anything about it. She just gave me my penicillin and went about her way. As some of you may know, antibiotics kills bacteria. No matter their purpose, good or bad, antibiotics kill them. So after having food poisoning it is very vital to take probiotics afterwards. Never had food poisoning, so didn't know that. Also with antibiotics its recommended to take probiotics while you are on them to help with digestions. Didn't thing about it as I have been on plenty of antibiotics throughout my life and have NEVER had an issue. So due to this PA neglecting to do her job and talk to me about probiotics, I have felt like crap for almost a week again. **I don't go to doctors very often because I feel that my body can usually handle itself, not because I don't trust doctors ( little stubbornness too is at fault). I actually trust them very much which really makes me flabbergasted about this specific PA.**

Now it is Wednesday and my stuff head/nose is back and I still havent heard anything about the test results. I just cant.even anymore! So where am I off to now you ask? To call them and figure out what the heck is going on!

Whisker Wednesday + Project 365 in Mexico

Welcome to a different version of Whisker Wednesday!

First order of business: Whisker Wednesday

Bruce stayed home while we were in Mexico and has been loving on us and meowing non-stop since. We were grateful to have our family and friends check in and play fetch with him. I think he really enjoyed playing and getting to know new people. Since Bruce has many toys (yes, he is majorly spoiled!) I like to try and cycle them so old toys become exciting again. Due to this, we have come across a new favorite...the shoe tie. He LOVES that thing. Dragging a long string on the ground is strangely entertaining for both parties. :)

Now onto the second order of business: Mexico

As some of you may know I have been doing Project 365. Although due to being sick, I have been slacking. But I did take many pictures while in Mexico so I am going to do the rest of January right on here!

Day 19: The once in a lifetime experience at the Black Hole. If you ever get the chance to do something like this, I definitely recommend it.






Day 20: The day at the sister resort. It was gorgeous and the bartenders we great!






Day 21: This was the day I became very sick so no pictures were taken. So here is a picture of our resort!





Day 22: While I was sick, these guys enjoyed every last drop of sun! So glad they were still able to have a good time.

Motivational Monday #16

Holy crap, is it really February already? Where did January go??? I'm thinking that being in Mexico for a whole week and then being sick (and still suffering) probably doesn't help.

And that leads me to why I was gone all of last week. While in Mexico, I caught something that was just absolutely nasty. Not quite sure of what it was but it is still lingering, unfortunately. Between the extremely sore throat, wooziness, shortness of breath, and lack of appetite I haven't had much energy to do anything! But I'm back now and that's what matters!

So in order to get back into the swing of things, lets get onto Motivational Monday.


Although I wanted to really live up to this quote in Mexico, my body was just not having it. But since getting back, I have really thought about worrying less and living more. At times I find myself worrying about certain things and letting that 'cramp my style'. It is really hard to go with the flow when you don't know the outcome. That is my challenge for myself as well as for you this week. When you find yourself worrying about something and realize that it is too 'cramping your style', embrace it. Find ways to get your mind off of those things or better ways to think about them. Who knows what the outcome will be if you stop worrying by just a little bit.

Whisker Wedneday



As we get ready to head out of town for Mexico this Friday, what to do with Bruce became a big question.

While we were in Colorado, there were two places that catered specifically to cats. One was called The Scratchin' Post (ran by an older lady named Kat--she was crazy and the place was filthy) and the other was called Happy Cat Retreat (ran by an older couple out in the country-ish and was clean). They were places just for cats and each cat got let our of their cage to play with other cats or people. We loved taking Bruce to the second one. They had these lockers that were half indoor and half outdoor. Here is a picture of their cages:


So this was the outside and it was the same on the inside of the building. The outside and inside were connected so that when it was nice outside, the cat could choose to be inside or outside...and Bruce loves to be outside. On a leash of course :) Turns out that no place really exists like that up here (unless you want to pay an arm and a leg and a couple toes). I could really have a business idea here...ANYWAY, we decided to keep him at our home and have family and friends check in on him. That way there is less stress for Bruce and he is in his own home. I may pick up a new toy for him just so that he has something new to play with as well.

I am sure he will do fine as he has been left alone before and has done well with people checking in on him and of course, playing a little bit (a lot) of fetch.
